Well attended, the day after the London march, around 2000 people marched through Brighton. Toward the end of the demo, a man assaulted me. He grabbed my arm, tried to take my camera and throw it to the ground, He failed. i’m fine. He has since been dealt with by the police. Although was not arrested at the time.
On the 11th October, during the London Palestine march, police arrested a woman, who describes herself as a ‘Brown Muslim woman taking up space’, because in a post on instagram, she’d called Zionist, kurpa patel a ‘coconut’.
I, and many others witnessed over a dozen police used to arrest one person, and remove her from the demo. see the full incident on @5pillarsnews insta reels. In September 2024, a judge rejected a similar case in court, saying it was ‘”part of the genre of political satire”.
In September, on the Tommy Robinson march, men made threats of violence to anti racist counter protesters. One of them tried to take my Keffiyeh, another pushed someone next to me. They used racist, homophobic & sexist language. The police saw all this and did very little.
Over 2000 people have now been arrested whilst peacefully holding placards in support of Palestine action. Whilst our government is supporting a genocide.
In recent days, video footage has emerged of some officers from Sussex Police, implying support for far right activists from the Sussex Patriots group, while they illegally put up flags on the south coast.
With a visible increase in far right behaviour in public spaces, attacks on black & brown people, people from refugee or migrant backgrounds, or religious minorities, there is a disparity in who is arrested & for what, and when the police will intervene to protect peoples safety.
The last image in this gallery is Heidi Bachram. She stood behind the crowd at the end of the march, during speeches, filming the whole time. She then complained when someone filmed her. Heidi is connected to Sussex Friends of Israel, who have been responsible for the harassment of Jewish people speaking up for Palestine, as well as targeting Palestinian voices and cultural events, including people who are refugee’s for being involved with Palestinian artists.
